HOLOCAUST AND APARTHEID.......

AP . Geneva :  The  UN  rights  expert ,  American  Richard  Falk , who  probes  Israel's  conduct  toward  Palestinians , reporting to UN headquarters  on March  21 , 2014 ,  accused  the  Jewish  state  of  a  campaign  of  ethnic  cleansing  and  apartheid  policies .


The  realities  on  the  ground  are  worsening  from  the  point  of  view  of  both  international  law  and  from  the  point  of  view  of  the  Palestinian  people ,  said  82 years  old   Richard  Falk , who  is  an  emeritus  law  professor  at  Princeton  university , he  also  strongly  rejected  claims  of  anti  Semitism , saying  they  are  defamatory  and  hurtful  given  that  he  is  Jewish  himself .


What  is  called  occupation  is  now  more  widely  understood  to  be  a  form  of  annexation , the  embodiment  of  apartheid , in  the  sense that  there's  a  discriminatory  dual  system  of  law , giving  legal  protection  to  the  Israeli  settlers  and  armies , and  subjecting  the  Palestinian  population  under  occupation  since 1967 , to a  continuing  existence  without  rights , he  added .


"" Will  this  century  become  known  as  the  age  of  atrocity ? perhaps  what  occurred  is  that  the  holocaust  sealed  the  situation , and  made  it  patently  clear ".  "" Yet  the  holocaust  alone  would  have  been  enough , all  by  itself , like  a  relative  shaming  a  family , the  Germans , our  human  relatives , have  ruined  all  our  reputations , not  as  individuals , they  have  ruined  the  reputation  of  the  human  family , although  we  are  not  all  responsible  for  what  those  who  acted  and  stood  by  did , we  are  all  stained . "


"" So  vast  and  intense  and  varied  was  the  suffering  inflicted  and  undergone  then , hence-force  must  not  any  human  suffering anywhere  also  be  seen  and  left  as  part  of  that  holocaust ."


R. Nozick was  a  controversial  and  original  thinker , an  American  Jew  himself , he  wrote  these  previous  lines  as  a  total  condemnation  of  world  conscience  regarding  the  holocaust , as  he  termed it .   I  honestly  wonder ,  had  he  lived  to  our  present  days , what  would  his  reactions  be , as  to  holocaust  descendants  in  Israel , their  acts  and  conscience .      


Yet  if  other  events  such  as  the  assertion  of  racial  superiority , apartheid  toward  indigenous  natives , imprisoning  their  children , stealing  their  lands , waters , and  their  livelihood , must  now  be  seen  through  the  prism  of  Zionism .


The  full  significance  and  implications  of  the  ongoing  trauma  taking  place  in  Palestine  dwarf  any  single  person's  understanding , certainly  they  dwarf  mine . Is  it  going  to  have  to  take  a  cataclysm  to  get  us  to  notice .






I  have  used  lines  and  words  of  the  writings  of  the  late  Nozick , explicitly  to  make  my  point  through  his  comments . As  usual  my  many  thanks  to  all .


  


   

WHEN HELPING DOESN'T HELP .........

Most  events  of  life , are  always  more  than  they  first  appear  to  be . And  in  our  rush  to  understand  what  little  of  it  we  can , we  either  oversimplify  what  we  witness  or  declare  it  to  be  a  chaotic  mess  that  has  no  coherence  what  so  ever .


European  societies  lean  more  in  our  times  toward  center-left , while  American  society  leans  more  to  center- right , though  not  most  American  colleges .  In  most  of  the  Middle - East , the  Arab  and  Musslem  world , the  population  and  consequently  their  political  upheavals  of  the  post  colonial  times , largely  had  the  tendencies  of  replacing  their  existing  aristocracies  based  on  family  and  land  with  an  aristocracy  based  on  military , or  religious  patronage .


Religion  and  military  throughout  the  region  maintained  it's  strong  hold , and  helped  dampen  possible  social  revolutions  with  only  violent  military  coups , or  Islamic  upheavals  countering  it .  Delusional  thoughts  and  acts  of  both  sides  have  become  disconnected  from  reality .


In  circumstances  associated  with  Syrian  events , Iraqi , or  even  the  Lebanese  situation , as  well  as  most  of  the  Arab  and  Musslem  world , living  in  the  moment  is  often  all  that  seems  available  and  possible  for  all  the  population  and  inhabitants , young  and  old  alike , forgetting  the  past , isolated  in  their  present , and  disoriented  by an  unclear , and  a totally  obscured  future .  Most  people  openly  dream  of  a  change , instead  they  only  live  and  dwell  in  the  shadow  of  their  respective  religions , ethnicities , and  sects .


Extended  family  network  connectedness , and  especially  the  old  ruling  mentality  that  winner  take-all  politically and  economically  on  the  ground  are  still  so  entrenched  and  central  in  these  societies .


But  these  are  rational  arguments  and  descriptions ,  and  the  rational  , when  too  much  blood  had  been  spilled , and  too  much  suffering  occurred  , does not  work  or  function  anymore .


AS  the  Syrian  barbaric  situation  goes  into  it's  fourth  year , and  the  senseless blood- shed  continues  in  Iraq  and  most  of  these  referred to countries  and  populations , one  comes  to  think , should  we  let  the  years  of  craze  over  there , demolish  and  annihilate  everyone ,  and  make  all  stop  believing  in  themselves  as  human  beings , make  them  barely  survive  instead  of  live  , or  just  live  the  absurd , created  so  well  by  all , and  I  really , literally ,  mean  all .




Keep  reminding  myself  of  the  impossible  situation  the  whole  Oummah  is  in , and  wonder  if  there's  room  for  help , and if  help  does  help  after  all , thanks  for  your time  and  patience , salamat .


       

THE AMAZING CONCEPT OF " WE "

A  large  part  of  how  we  feel  about  life , relations , and  the  concept  of  "we" are  shaped  by  the  emotions  we  have  had , and  expect  to  have , or so  believes  R. Nozick .


Our  own  well-being  is  directly  linked  with  that  of  someone ( or something as in a country ) we  love . When  something  bad  or  good  happens  to  one  we  love , something  as  good  or  bad  happens  to  us .


What  is  normally  called  "we" , is  the  unison  and  constitution  of  a  new  entity  in  the  world  by  two  people ,  an  entity  requiring  each  of  us  to  want  the  other  to  feel  the  same  way  about  us .


When  we  form  this  entity , the  "we" , we  create  a  new  concept , affecting  not  only  our  well-being  but  also  our  autonomy , we  put  limitations  on  our  own  decision-making  power  and  rights , most  decisions  can  no  longer  be  made  independently , and  I'm  talking  about  daily  and/or  strategical  and  calculated decisions ;  where  to  live , how  to  live , who  to  befriend , having  children  and  how many , travel  plans , whether  to  go  to  the  movies  that  night  and  what  to  see , even  the  type  of  foods , just  to  accommodate  the  other .


To  be  part  of  a  "we"  concept  involves  having  a  new  identity , an  additional  one  if  you  like , as  we  drift  and  become  psychologically  part  of  the  other's  identity , we  see  and  place ourselves  as  part  of  the  "we".


When  two  people  form  a  "we"  they  often  try  to  think , and  interact  with  the  outside  world  as  a  unit . We  all  in  "we"  relations , want  to  possess  the  other , yet  each  also  needs  to  be  independent , dominating  acts  could  destroy  a  "we"  concept .


A  good "we"  would  be  in  seeing  the  other  happy  with  us , and  made  happy  through  our  love , we  then  become  happier  with  ourselves . We  all  pass  through  phases  of  doubt  about  another's  love , about  the  reciprocity  of  feelings , only after  long  times  and  experiences  together , through  arguments  and  crises , can  we  come  to  know  the  other's  trustworthiness , reliability , resiliency , and  compassion  in  hardship . The  energy  we  spend  in  doubting  might  be  better invested  in  improving  our  current  "we" .


The  longing  to  feel  that  the  other  is  constantly  the  right  partner  in  our  "we"  also  helps  to  fortify  our  inevitable  moments  of  togetherness  when  the  feeling  itself  , sometimes , becomes  bruised .


The  major  concern  of  many  of  us  "we" ers , and  what  we  dwell  upon  and  nourish , often  and  in  most  cases , is  the  other  person , and  what  holds  between  the  two , not  our  own  state  or  ourselves  as  an  endpoint  of  the  relation .




I'm  indebted  to  M. Gilbert , and  the  original  thinker  Nozick , for  their  inspiring  words  and  ideas  throughout their  illuminating works . And  as  usual  my  thanks  to  all  my  good  readers  for  their  time  and  patience .          

IGNORED SIMILARITIES ......

AS  the  Ukrainian  situation continues  to  develop ,  and  coinciding  with  the  PM  of  Israel's  visit  to   Washington , to  boost  the  biggest  lobbying  machine (AIPAC ) .  I cannot  but  notice  our  elected  representatives  total  insensitivity  to  injustice  in  all  it's  aspects .


WE  are  appalled  and  we  strongly  condemn  Russian  actions  and  aggressions   against  Ukraine , Syria ,  and  Georgia  in the near  past . But  entirely  fail  to  mention  or  recognize  similarities  to  these  situations  with  the  Israeli  policies  and  their  brutal  actions  toward  the  Palestinian  population  under  Israeli  occupation  of  Palestinian territories  in  the  west  bank .


What  the  majority  of  Americans  value  most  is  fair  play . This  total  insensitivity  to  injustice  and  the  blind  eye  of  all  our  elected  representatives  and  our  media  toward  what  we  daily  witness  of  the  Israeli  continued  policies  of occupation , brutality  and  apartheid  toward  Palestinians .


WE  must  in  all  honesty  correct  this  imbalance , if  we  want  to  have  the  moral  rectitude  to  condemn  Russian  aggressions , we  must  remind  ourselves  and  our  elected  representatives  that  acting  within  the  boundaries  of  correctness  is  the  norm ,  and  not  living  under  self  imposed  blindness , fear , and  total  lie .


WE  can  no  longer  stand  by  in  silent  assent  as  to  what  concerns  the  Israeli  behavior , and  object  and  condemn  similar  or  often  lesser  actions  of  other  aggressors .








Had  to  remind  myself  and  my  readers  of  the  situation  we're in , remembering  the  shameful  behavior  of  our  representatives  in  congress , during  the last  visit  of  the  same  Israeli  PM . Let's  hope  he  does  not  elect  to  address  congress  this  time , and  further  embarrass  and  shame our  country  . Thank  you  all .
