Happiness is not , except in very rare instances , something that drops into our lives , in an overnight by the mere occurrence of some fortunate circumstances . For in one's life time , all types of misfortunes live with us , illness and psychological confusions , struggle and poverty and ill-will , wars , destruction and displacement , we who are to be happy or at least happier must find ways and mechanisms of coping with various and many causes of unhappiness .
" It is difficult not to demand of life more than it has to give . And to demand too much is the surest way of getting even less than is possible" said B. Russell .
Generally a modest and realistic judgement of one's own powers is a source of good happiness . Most people cannot be happy unless their way of life and their outlook on the world is accepted and approved by those around them , and more so by those with whom they live and work . While it is a clear feature of our modern times , that we are more than ever divided into sets which differ deeply in our morals , our beliefs , and even in our modes of daily lives .
We know and admit that all of our family members , and friends , even neighbours have their faults and different ways , and yet are on the whole nice and good people whom we like , but we find it difficult to accept that they should have the same attitude toward us . We expect them to think that , we have no faults , we are filled with indignant amazement if and when we're told or faced with any wrong doing or silly thinking .
There is in many people a dislike of rationality , and where this exists unhappiness exist as well .
When we acquire easily many and most things in life , and have all we want , we know that we're still not necessarily happy , and we forget that to be without some of the things we want is an indispensable part of happiness .
" The wise person will be as happy as circumstances permit , and if he or she finds the contemplation of the universe painful beyond a point , then one will contemplate something else instead ." To quote B. Russell again .
The great philosopher Russel had a wide range of opinions on the topic , and was instrumental in inspiring my words , and to all my good readers thank you .
