Or the habit of giving opinions and advise on matters outside of one's knowledge or competence . Giving opinions on subjects one knows nothing about .
Ultracrepidarians include and is not limited to ; rich people , religious figures and most politicians , even serious academicians and others , all share this bad habit of not having enough wisdom nor being able to say " I don't know ", and maybe even listen instead . Invariably volunteering themselves with firm opinions , predictions and interruptions based on pure guesses and false pretenses and presumptions .
While in many or most occurrences , the would be answer is a plane "I don't know" , why do we keep pretending and insisting to know when we don't !!! Maybe it is easier to fake it , rather than looking ignorant by admitting that "I don't know" does it sound more intelligent and profitable to fake it . Maybe some of us are too proud to just admit their not knowing . Maybe it's the feeling of superiority and having to have the last word , wright or wrong .
The economist Nobel laureate T. Sargent , was asked in a conference if he "could tell the panel and audience" what the CD rates will be couple years down the line , his flat answer was ; No .
To know everything or pretend to know everything , is always a dangerous leading attitude in life , to admit to ourselves and to others that sometimes "we simply don't know" should be easier than not , at least to some of us . It's only a mature attitude and mind that could bring in us the power to admit more often than not the "I don't know" and say it .
As always , my many thanks for your time , patience and the effort to propagate and spread the blog .
