REORGANIZING AND STRAIGHTENING OUR BELIEF .......

We've  always  assumed  that  the  gods  are  above  all  other  beings , above  all  even  physically , we  always  look  for them up  never  down  or  sideways  do we not ?  living  in  different  spheres , blessed  and  happy . They  themselves  describe it as such .


But  what  sort  of  actions  could  we ,  or  did  we  ,  attribute  or  assign  to  them  ??  Acts  of  justice ?  of  generosity  or  fairness,  impartiality and  equity ?? 


Will  not  the  gods  seem  absurd  if  we  assigned  to  them  the  making  of  contracts   and  covenants  and  return  or  promise  deposits ,  pay  old  debts  for  received  favors , and  so  on  and  so  on ......


We  all  have  to  agree  that  what  could  be  true  or  sound  fair  in  an  old  story  book or  a  play , is  simply  not  viable  as  real  history  or  geography .


We  have  to  make  sure ,   that  we  don't  look  and  treat  our  divine  beings  as  such , and  that  we  are  not  strange  people  living  in  an  indifferent  world  and  in  unconcerned  and  apathetic  times .

CONSPIRACY THEORIES REIGN .....

Nowadays  talking  to  any  Arab  intellectual  all  over  the  world  would  assert  one  fact ;  that  the  condition  of  the  Arab  people  particularly  and  most  of  the   Musslem  world  is  totally  dysfunctional .


Even  back  in  late  19th  century  Jamal Al Afghany , stated   " It is  permissible  to  ask  oneself  why  Arab  civilization , after  having  thrown  such  a  live  light  on  the  world , suddenly  became  extinguished .


Force  is  the  reigning  tool , all  existing  Arab  regimes , or  new  aspiring  forces , whether  Islamic  or  military  oligarchies , only  see  force  as  the  way  necessary  to  effect  their  policies ,  these  pseudo  legalized  authorities  took  to  subdue  their  populations  and  force  them  to  obey  their  will , forgetting  or  overlooking  the  thesis  that  brutality  begot  brutality , darkness  begot  even  more  darkness .


One  other  major  aspect  of  Arab  and  Musslem  dysfunctionality  , is  their  total  " live  by  and  surrender "  to the  discourse  of  conspiracies , in  lieu  of  cause  and  effects  and  reasonable  explanations .  Daily  Arabic  press  and  media  is  full  of  them . I'm  going  to  quote   a  full  paragraph  from  the  brilliant  book  by  R. R. Reilly , "The  closing  of  the  Muslim  mind " .  a  should  read  to  anyone  with  the  slightest  interest  in  Arab  and/or  Musslem  affairs .


He  says  " Conspiracy  theories  are  the  intellectual  currency  of  an  irrational  world  . [ Arabs]  and  Muslims  are  transformed  from  actors  into  victims ~ usually  of  some  Jewish  or  Western  conspiracy . Otherwise , events  are  assigned  directly  to  God  as  their  sole  cause , again  removing  them  from  the  realm  in  which  man's  actions  can  have  any  effect ."


AS  Tunisian  poet  Bassit  bin  Hassan  describes  it  " The  prevailing  discourse  among  us  is  accustomed  to  blaming  the  hegemonic  and  tyrannical  'other ' for  our  misfortunes , for  the  hideousness  that  surrounds  us , for  our  cultural  emptiness , and  for  our  problems . It  acquits  us  of  responsibility  for  our  tragedies  through  the  dualism  of  the  evil  "other"  and  "us"  , the  innocent  victims .


Natural  disasters  are  always , explicable  only  in  terms  of  God's  direct  wrath , will  and  action.  Dr.  Al-Houni  , a  Libyan  reformist , comes  to  the  conclusion ; " Arab  societies  have  only  one  of  two  options : either  to  sever  their  ties  with  Western  civilization  and  it's  cultural  institutions  and  continue  to  do  themselves  harm ....  or  to  irrevocably  sever  their  ties  with  the  religious  legacy  of  the  middle  ages , in  order  for  their  philosophy  to  be  a  philosophy  of  life  and  freedom , and  not  one  of  death  and  hatred ."






Mr.  R. Reilly  and  his  above-mentioned  excellent  book  were  instrumental  for  the  present  blog  about  the  Oummah's  situation , and  I'm  grateful  ,  my  usual  thanks  to  all  my  readers .            

THE WAY WE THINK , AND ........

Here  in  America , and  the  west  in  general ,  we  think  of  the  past  of  our  present , we  consider  the  whys  and  the  whens ,   the  ifs  and  the  whom , always  to insure  knowing  and  understanding  the  before , but  do  we  really  learn ? 

The  fear  continues  ;  the  absolute  enemies  of  everything  we  believe  in  and  represent , turned  with  times  into  Russians , Koreans , Cubans  and  Vietnamese , Nicaraguans , even  aliens .  Afghans , Iraqis , Palestinians  and  Iranians ,  lately Musslems  , whether  we  helped  create  them  or  not .

Let's  recreate  a  different  and  better  after .  WE  Americans  and  our  western  allies  destroyed  any and  every  hope  for  a  real  possible  secular , or  half  secular  opposition  in  Syria ,  by  our  indecisiveness   and  inactivity ,  by  our  unwillingness  to  take  any  meaningful  actions  . 


WE  in  the  west  are  still  walking  the  same  path   whether  in  Syria  , Palestine  and  in  many  other  very  dangerous  spots  of  the  world .


IS  our  humanitarianism , and  of  course  our  interests ,  only  aroused  by  certain  issues , specific  to  certain  areas ,   while  we  totally  dehumanize   with  other  issues , backed  by  different  reasonings  we  create  to  insulate  ourselves  and  wrap  our  minds .


WE  live  forward , a  Danish  philosopher   once  said , but  we  understand  backwards .  The  present  sheds  a  backward  light  on  the  world's  future  becoming  process ,  let's  recreate  a  different   and  better  after  , shouldn't  we  ??

A TIGHT FIX ......

Confidence  in  most  scientific  proven  matters , such  as  evolution , the  big  ban , the age  of  the  earth  or  the  universe , climate  changes , decline  sharply  as  faith  in  any  supreme  being  rises .


According  to  most  polls , likewise  those  who  regularly  attend  religious  services  or  pray  regularly , whether  they  are  evangelical  Christians , Sunni or  Shiia  Musslems , or  orthodox  Jews  invariably  express  much  greater  doubts  about  scientific  concepts  they  always  see  as  contradictory  to  their  faith .


" When  you  put  facts  against  faith , explained  Nobel  winner  biochemistry  prof.  Lefkowitz  of  Duke  univ.  , facts  it  seems , cannot  argue  against  faith "


A  friend  once  marveled  at  the  fact  that  half  the  Jews  of  the  world  run  the  world  in  many  aspects , while  the  other  half  continue  to  debate  whether  they  could  poke their  noses  on  Saturdays  for  fear  of  loosing  a  hair  on  the  Sabbath .


Why , one  wonders , did  half  of  humanity  box  themselves  in  such  a  tight  fix ??






Just  some  quick  reflections  inspired  from  some  news  related  short  article , my  usual  thanks  to  all .

BOOKS INC.

Since  the  dawn  of  recorded  humanity , books  have  always  been  a  common  and  popular  endeavor .  Philosophers , novelists , gods  and  prophets ,  till  our  times  in the  new  forms  of bloggers , and  the  short  versions  of  tweeters  and  face-book users , always  a  display  of  ideas , power  and  will , imagination  et  all.


Today  I'm  referring  to  holy  and  sacred  books , scriptures  and  the  like . The  Christian  Bibles ,  the  Hebrew  Tanakh  and  Talmud  and other  old  testament  books , the  Qur'an  and  many  other holy  books  governing  other  religions .


If  we  accept  ( and  many of us do )  that  all  holy  and  sacred  books  were  of  historical  nature , books  that  arose  out  of  the  life  of  the  then  people .  Prophets  and  their  books  that  came  naturally  from  time  to  time  to  intervene  and  reorganize  public  life ,  books  that  involved  certain  communities  and  aimed  at  making  a  contribution  to  it's  life .


All  religion  books  and  scriptures  were  originally  addressed  to  other  people  at  many  different  times  and  places , not  relating  in  any  way  with  us  nowadays . The  commanding  words  and  verses  of authority  and  will   in  one  century  will  not  always  work  as  originally  planned  in  another


Holy  books  and  scriptures  cannot  and  should  not  claim  to  answer  and  speak  for  changing    circumstances  of  all  succeeding  ages , the  sacred  books  of  all  religions  belong   forever  to  the  past ,  a  non  governing  past . Trying  to  revive  this  past  today  belong  only  to the  entertainment  world , the  movies , to few  historians ,  not  to  managing  actual  affairs  and  world  governance.


The  human  race  is  naturally  always  driven  to  move  forward , toward  more  intelligent times  and  ways , and  not  stagnate  and  stay  content  with  the  life  of  the  present , and  certainly  not  be  fixed  in  its  past . The  past  cannot  simply  be  reincarnated  and  imposed  on  the  present  by  sheer  force .




In  a  future  blog  I  will  address  some  more  specific issues  relating  to  holy  and  sacred  books , as  usual  my  many  thanks  to  you  all .    

TWENTY FIRST CENTURY THINKING AND POLICIES ......

These few  ideas  would form  a  natural  sequel  to  my  " July 29 , 2009 " blog , " an  idea  for  Afghanistan " .


Even  though  I  was  later  challenged  in  My  2009  blog , I  suggested back  then  a  plan  calling  for  the  division  of  Afghanistan  along  certain  lines  and  ideas , I  still  believe  it's  the  only  reasonable , sane  and   applicable  solution , to  Afghanistan  as  well  as  many  areas  of  conflict  around  the  world .


Afghanistan  would  jump  immediately  to  the  picture , as  an  ideal  place  to  try  and  implement  the  division .  Ukraine  and  Syria  would  both ,  form  and  be  nowadays  a  defacto  as  good  of  an  example .  Iraq , Libya , Yemen  and  some  European  eternal  separatist's  enclaves  would  be  good  terrain  for  the  same  type  imposed  divisions .


The  present  Ukrainian  situation  brings  the  old  Cuban  example  to  mind ,  imagine  if  back  then  a  100.000  or  more  Americans  were  living , working  and  owning  properties  on  the  island  would   we  doubt  for  a  minute  that  the  U.S.  wouldn't  have  totally  invaded  the  island ??


Syria's  actual  on  the  ground  stagnation , due  to  the  Islamisation , fragmentation  and  ineffectiveness  of  it's  opposition  against  the  brutal  Assad  family  regime  and  their  beneficiaries .


Dividing  along  conservative  secularism  versus  fanatic Islamic  rule , in  the  Afghan  example , Russian  ethnic  sentiments  vis-a-vis  Ukrainian  nationalism  and  pro  western  sentiments , or  the  pseudo  secularism  under  the  autocratic  family  regime  in  Syria  versus  Islamo - tribal  and  ethnic  groups  claiming  the  rule  of  the  other  side.  Iraq  is  totally  ethnic , tribal  and  sectarian , let  the  Sunnis  and  Shiia , Kurds  and  Arabs  compete , govern  and  show  the  world . Libya  is  a  purely  city  and  bourgeois  citizenry  against  a  primitive  Islamic  tribal  presence .


The  proposed  policy  would  ask  for  the  international  community  to  impose  a  division  of  these  countries , subject  to  their  embattling  sides , ethnic  differences , religious  governing  against  secularism . Let  each  side  prove  itself .  the  body  of  the  international  community  would  enforce  and  guarantee  a fair  demilitarization , and  non  aggressivity  between  the  two  neighbouring parts , and  insure  a  free  movement  of  the  willing  citizenry  within  the  two  sides .


Very  twenty  first  century  visionary ,  quite  democratic  and  the  least  brutal ,  an  almost  peaceful  solution  to  all  very  bloody  conflicts . It  is  therefore ,  the  exercise  of  reason  that  creates  the  better  and  less  brutal  policies , applying  them  depends  on  our  true  will  and  tenacity .






Back  then  and  nowadays  , reason  must  prevail , and  stopping  the  brutality  and  carnage  is  an  obligation  of  the  international  community,  thanks  for  your  time .    


      

ONE , THREE , OR MANY ......

I'm  not  going  to  concern  myself  today  with  many , though  a  very  valid  consideration , but  only  with  three  gods , creators  of  the  three  monotheistic  religions , or  so  they  claim .  AS  all  three  faiths  insist  on  answering  to  the  same  divine  power  and  creator .


Many  Musslems  think  of  others  as  prophet  killers (Jews )  and  Jesus  worshipers (Christians ) , while  Jews  in  their  homeland  look  upon  Christian  and  musslems  cohabitants  as  animals , and  look  forward  to  expunge  them  all  from  their  Jewish  domains .  The  Christian  old  and  new  history  of  wars ,  aggressions  and  cruelty  against  members  of  both  other  religions  are  innumerable .


Some  still  believe  and  maintain  that  one  god  created  the  three  religions  and  graced  them  with  his  blessings . The  whole  concept  of  religions  and  gods ,  prophets , messengers with  their  teachings  throughout  the  times  have  turned  out  to  be  such  a  disappointment  , ethically  and  aesthetically  totally  mediocre  when  not  downright  evil .


Having  more  than  one  god  enable  us  at  least , to  compare  and  grade , we  can  judge  which  one  would  pass for  the  all  good , the  good  or  the  less  good . If  it  is  one  god  for  all  then  might  we  ask  ourselves ; why  couldn't  the  divine  being  get  everyone  into  a  right  balance ? Or is it  somehow  that  gods in their interactions can only  result  in  affairs  that  don't  always  work  so  well . Gods  must  and  cannot  be  detached  from  us  nor  from  what's  happening  down  here .


Why  have  religions  and  their  creators  throughout  history , been  largely  unable  to  expand  upon an  act  of  human  equality  and  embrace  all  of  humanity  regardless of  religious  differences ,  every  god  in  history  wanted  all  or  annihilate  all .  Even  the  idea  of  love  one's  neighbors , all  religions  and  certainly  the  three  monotheistic  ones , only  mean  that  one  is  primarily  to  love  only  his  fellow  coreligionists , not  someone  from  another  religion .

The  Musslem  god  is  principally  about  will , his  creation  is  purely  will  and  force  and  never  thought  or  reason . The  Christian  god  is  almost  too  philosophical  with  his  trinity  and  the  original  sin  et all .  The  Jewish  god  is  a  loose  mix  of  both , often  ignored  and  hidden due  to  his  ambiguities  and  in  many  instances  his  cruelties .


Gods  are  a  product  of  the  mind , to  have  one  or  many , is  the  creation  and  fabrication  of  our  weaknesses , needs and fears , of  our  imagination  for  our  defenses  and  aggressiveness .


We  can  safely  assume the  existence  of  at  least  three  different  divine beings , each  creator  in  his  own  way  and  responsible  for  his  words , messages , and  followers .  Gods  did  not  attempt  to  create  the  most  perfect  possible  world , but  rather  they've  created  a  world  in  their  own  image , at  least  looking  at  our  world , maybe  other  worlds  are  more  perfectly  created , we  cannot  tell . 


 Could  we  assume  then , that  the  evil  we  perpetrate  here  on  earth , is  a  reflection  of  the  divine's  nature  in  some  way ??  Historically  people  of  different  faiths  gave  the  impression  of  maturing , then  collapsed back  into  cruelty and barbarism , maybe   gods  mature  as  well .....
