A CONCEPTION OF REALITY .......

Why  do  we  so  fear  the  after death  non existence , and  don't  even  consider  the  prenatal  non existence ??  call  it  my  philosophical  fallacy .

Schopenhauer  back  then  wrote : A  man  finds  himself , to  his  great  astonishment , suddenly  existing , after  thousands  of  years  of  non  existence ; he  lives  for  a  little  while , and  then  again , comes  an  equally  long  period  when  he  must  exist  no  more . The  heart  rebels  against  this , and  feels  that  it  can not  be  true .

I  can  not  think  of  and  about  the  world  without  thinking  of  it  as  my  world . My  existence  is  the  center . I  suppose  god  thinks  of  it  all  in  the  same  way . I'm  trying  in  all  earnest  to  imagine  switching  roles  with  god .

The  purpose ,  is  to  live  our  existence ,  as  from  a  cosmic  perspective , this  supposed  existence   has  neither  great  meaning   nor  purpose  or  necessity .  And  if  god  existed , the  same  would  apply  to  him .

We  are  all  living  an  accidental  moment  within  the  great  scheme  of  things ,  we  might  easily  not  have  existed  at  all .  We  sometimes  believe  gods  exist  simply  because  we  want  them  to  be , and  they  ought  to  exist .

How  can  we  all  be  so  small ,  gratuitous  and  ephemeral , and  still  claim  to  ourselves  and  our  gods , a  role  in  the  ever-lasting  continuum   of  the  billions  of  universes  and  their  pre  or  after-math .

BETTER UNDERSTANDINGS OF LIFE AND DEATH .............

Generally speaking  death  is  motivating , it  gives  a  desperate  and  necessary  tone  to  life , and  impose  a  dynamic  way  and  trajectory  on  what  most  people  try  to  achieve .

It  would  be  quiet  healthy  to  live  every  day  as  though  life  is  going  to  go  on  for  ever , but  mortality , for  some  reason ,  is  always  looming  and  hovering  somewhere  behind  doors  of  our  imagination .  Steve  Jobs  for  one  had  given  several  speeches  about  how  motivated  he  was  by  the  prospect  of  death .

Epicurus  was  famous  for  arguing  that  death  is  nothing  to  us , and  nothing  to  fear  when  it  arrives , we  are  not  around  to  experience  it . Epicurus  recognized  that  most  people  are  better  off  postponing  death  and  living  longer , premature  death  -- a  shorter  life --  is  usually  fearful  and  scary .  But death , the  event  itself , he  convincingly  argued , is  no  cause  for  alarm .

Nozick  of  Harvard  university  invited  and  led  his  readers  to  imagine  nothingness  as  a  force  sucking  things  into  non-existence ,  I  would  go  a  step  further  in  explaining  and  say ;  Death  par excellence , is  the  force  by  itself  leading  and  sucking  us  into  non-existence  and  nothingness.

Each  of  us  in  this  world , is  not  for  a  very  long  time , and  within  the  few  years  of  our  lives , have  to  acquire  what  ever  there  is  to  know  of  this  strange  planet , its  inhabitants , their  cruel  ways , and  the  not  so  cruel  ones , and  their  place  in  the  universe .

The  world  is  full  of  things  that  are  tragic  or  comic , heroic  or  bizarre  and  surprising ,  those  who  fail  to  be  interested  in  the  spectacle  of  life  and  its  extravaganzas ,  are  forgoing  one  of  the  most  important  privileges  that  existence  has  to  offer .

It  is  only  because  we  humans  are  mortals , that  time  is  limited  to  us . Why  we  need  to  conquer  speed , time  and  distances  as  these  would  have  no  meaning  for  an  immortal .

A FINAL CONCLUSION ON THE U.S INVOLVEMENT IN SYRIA ......

We  ought , and  I'd  rather  say  we  should ,  get  involved  and  interfere , to bring  an  end  to  the  Syrian  situation , we  should  have  the  final  saying  in  it's  outcome .  By  forcing  both  a  modified  regime  and  the  majority  of  the  free  Syrian  army ( secular  factions ) to come  up  with  a  political  transitional  compromise , we  would  win  the  day  , insure  an  unprecedented  Syrian  popular  friendship  and  loyalty  to  the  U.S  and  the  west .

The  humanitarian  side  of  it  should  not  affect  us  tremendously , as  our  usual  pragmatism  in  all  real politicking  situations  dictates . We  should  keep  a  blind  eye  toward  the  daily  tragedies  taking  place  over  there .

  I  was  jokingly  making  the  remark  to  a   good  friend  that ;  " you , me ,  all  Jewish  organized  lobbies  plus  some  neo-cons  , are  the  only  ones  calling  for  and  supporting  the  U.S  involvement  and  strike ." A  very  bizarre  combination  at  best .

 I'm  honestly  baffled  and  don't  understand  anymore  the  left  nor  the  liberals  indifference  toward  the  Syrian  people  ongoing  tragedy  and  total  annihilation  at  the  hands  of  a  very  brutal  and  selfish  regime  that  originated  and  orchestrated  the  whole  scenario   from  day  one  ,  combined , aligned , and  in  a  total  partnership  of  ;  ambitions ,  purpose  and  final  goals ,  with  lunatic  and  ignorant   Islamists  and  jihadies  who  blindly  believe  they  can  reinstate  their  prophet's  beard ,  robes  and  niquabs  in  today's  world .

It  is  not  an  Iranian  affair , nor  a  Russian  or  Chinese  geopolitical  game  . It  is  definitely  our  concern  and  business  all  the  way , and  we  should  be  very  clear  and  adamant  about  it . It  is  absolutely  and  unquestionably   " our  interests  against  theirs ."  It  is  an  ongoing  war , a  very  serious  and  bloody  one ,  and  we  have  to  win  it .

And  to  finish  this  saga  ,  why  not  let  the  Russians  convince  the  Assad  regime   to  tactically  surrender  it's  chemical  weapons , or  at  least  go  into  that  hazy  tunnel , and  put  the  U.S  in  a  comfortable  position  of  welcoming  the  effort  and  sitting ,  watching  and  doing  nothing , everyone  could  be  happier  but  the  Syrian  lost  generations  of  youngsters .

AN HONEST OPINION ABOUT THE SYRIAN INTERVENTION ....

The  rule  of  a  good  sequel  is  that  it  ups  the  precedent , addendum  to  my  blog  of  July 17th  2013 .

The  regime  and  the  Syrian  secular  opposition . So  long  as  they  all  keep  fighting  each  other , they  can not  reach  the  better  life . They  may  stake  out  some  small  territory  for  themselves , but  it's  theirs  only  so  long  as  they  can  hold  to  it .

This  state  can't  be  maintained  forever , this  war  of  all  against  all  will  destroy  the  social  fabric  of  society  and  kill  the  species . Both  sides  are  becoming  the  means  of  their  own  annihilation  and  extinction .

If  some  other  stronger  force  comes  along ; ie, the  U.S. and  some  or  many  of  the  willing , it  will  impose  a  forced  change  of  mind  on  both  fighting  parties , which  might  cause  them  to  seek  peace  with  one  another .

The  very  paralysed  international  community , its consensus  through  the  UN. resulting  in  unified  action , is  proving  ultimately  untenable , it  is  destined  to  tear  itself  apart .

Nothing  can  hold  this  ugly  war  in  check . This  situation  will  guarantee  a  state  of  constant  and  perpetual  conflict , and  unending  cruelty  for  both  parties and  the  general  surrounding  countries  and  their  populations , as  each  faction  seeks  to  impose  its  total  will  on  others .

It  requires  the  interference  of  a  strong  willing  authority , capable  of  imposing  a  strong  dominance  over  the  different  fighting  factions , and  with  the  help  of  all  neighbouring  powers , eliminate  the  Islamists  and  the  various  jihadi  groups .

Let's  not  hide  behind  cliché  slogans  of  the  sort  that  it's  not  our  war , or  it's  not  for  us  to  police  the  world , we  all  know  that  it's  a  regional  war  involving  some  very  real  enemies  of  the  U.S , it's  interests  and  its  allies .

In  short  it  requires  a  tyrant , a  savior , a  Leviathan , and  only  the  U.S  could  assume  and  enforce  such  a  courageous  role  in  today's  world .

I  honestly  never  thought  myself  capable  of  calling  for  a  foreign  military  intervention  in  the  Middle-East  or  in  Syria , these  are  sad  times , except  that  it  is  in  my  opinion  the  only  way  out .

A LITTLE LEBANESE INTERNAL AFFAIR ....

Few  weeks  ago  a  big  blast  hit  the  southern  suburb  of  Beirut , an  area  considered  a  Hizballa  strong hold , a  Shiite area . Many  dozens  were  killed  and  many  hundreds  were  injured . Property  losses  were devastating  to  the  local  population .

Couple  weeks  later  a  double  blow-up  cars  took  place  in  Tripoli , a  Sunni  strong hold , blowing  two  mosks  on  a  Friday , ( a  praying  day  for  Musslems ) ;  killing  many  dozens  and  injuring  many  hundreds . Almost  the  same  style  and  effects .

After  the  Tripoli  deadly  blasts  , many  Hizballa  spokesmen , and  many  of  it's  affiliates , came  up  with  statements  indicating  and  affirming  that  the  perpetrators  of  both  acts  were  the   same  people , probably  insinuating and  pointing  the  finger  to  Israel , or  some  obscure jihadi  group , but  the  same  hands  nonetheless .

Lately  the  Lebanese  judicial  system , and  it's  investigators , established  that  Syrian  moukhabarat ( second  bureau  official  agencies ) were  behind  the  Tripoli  bombings , they  even  went  as  far  as  charging  and  detaining  some  Syrian regime  affiliated  members ( Lebanese  nationals  and  two Syrians )  with   the  crime .

Now  does  this  mean  and  prove  that  the  Syrian  moukhabarat  are  the  perpetrators of  both  crimes ??  no  one  doubts  or  deny  their  blood  thirst  and  strong  appetite  for  killing . If  facts  go  in  those  directions  and  indicate  the  strong  possibility  of  a  Syrian  direct  involvement  in  both  blasts , would  Hizballa  look  into  these  serious  allegations , instead  of  masquerading  itself  with  barricades  and  futile  check-points , good  only  at  stopping  foreign  visitors and  tourists . Would  they  just  ignore  the  facts  in  favor  of  their strategic  policies  and  Iranian  interests ,  would  Hizballa  acknowledge  these  heinous  crimes  against  their  own  people  and  all  Lebanese  or  simply  let  go  ???

Let  go  of  the  incriminating  facts  as  they  did  many  times  lately , in  similar  cases  and  incidences .



A quick  comment  on  a  recurring  political  attitude  lately  in  Lebanon , thanks  for  your  attention .

 

MONTAIGNE.....US ... AND THE IDEA OF DEATH ...

Back  in  the  16th  century  Montaigne  wrote :  " In  life , we  should  have  wife , children , goods , and  above  all  health , if  we  can ; but  we  must  not  bind  ourselves  to  them  so  strongly  that  our  happiness  totally  depends  on  them . We  must  create  a  back  space  of  our  own , entirely  free , in  which  to  establish  our  real  liberty  and  our  principal  retreat  and  solitude .
Here  our  ordinary  conversation  must  be  between  us  and  ourselves , in  private , here  we  must  talk  and  laugh  as  if  without  wife , without  children , without  possessions , without  company  and  entourage , so  that , if  and  when  time  comes  to  lose  them , it  will  be  nothing  new  to  us , and  surely  less dreadful  to  do  without  them ."

WE  all  need  to  learn  and  train  ourselves , not  to  fear  our  nonexistence , death  is  easy , most  likely  one  does  not  encounter  death  at  all , for  we  are  gone  into  nothingness  before  it  fully  gets  there , or  at  best  simultaneously . We  die  in  the  same  way  that  we  fall  asleep , by  drifting  away .

IF  one  talks  about  death  normally , even  jokingly , and  I am one  to  do  that in  many  and  most  instances , if  we  run  through  the  images  of  our  own  and  others  death  scenes  often  enough , it  could  not  catch  us  by  surprise , preparing  ourselves  should  free  us  somehow  from  " the  death  fear."   

Imagining  accidents  and  death  scenes  that  might  befall  on  us , our  dear  ones  or  our  friends , can  help  us  better  accept  such  ideas  in  the  abstract , and  can  calm  us  when  facing  realities .

Death  is  about  the  way  it  happens , and  is  only  a  few  bad  moments  at  the  end  of  life . It  is  generally  not  worth  wasting  any  anxiety  over , or so  apparently  Montaigne  believed .

OUR DOUBLE STANDARDS ......

IN  the  U.S.  not  long  ago , security  forces  and  local  police  enforcements , totally  crushed  and  eliminated  all  aspects  of  occupy  Wall Street  movements  in  NY city  and  in  dozens  of  other  cities  across the  country , even  the  most  peaceful  of  them , the  media  almost  kept  total  silence .

I , in  all  honesty ,  would  like  to  know  which  Western  country  including  our  own , that  would  tolerate  armed  occupiers  of  public  buildings , squares  and  mosques , destroyers  of  other  faith's  churches  and  schools , people  who  opened  fire  against security  forces .

Egypt  is  not  living  a  coup , or  an  attempt  by  the  military  to  step  back  into  power , those  days  are  over  for  Egypt  and  most  Egyptians . What  is  taking  place  over  there  is  a  revolution  , by  the  people  of  Egypt , or  at  least  by  the  majority  of  them , using  the  military  forces  to  achieve  it's  goals  of  not  loosing  their  real  democracy ,  by  the  people  and  for  all  the  people , a  revolution  against  primitive  religious  take  over , and  religious  tyranny .

IT  is  the  real  beginning , or  at  least  the  possibility  of  some  real  beginning , of  establishing  a  correct  and  realistic  democracy , a  secular  one , representing  in  good  faith  all  of  the  Egyptian   people , and  help  establish  a  leading  beacon  of  freedom  to  the  whole  Arabic  and  Musslem  world .  

The  West , as  people  and  governments ,  should  understand  all  this , and  act  accordingly . We  should  abandon  policies  that  only  benefit  the  state  of  Israel . We  should  stop  this  double  standards  or  double  gaming  vis a vis  the  Egyptian  majority  and  their  legitimate  revolution .  We  should  build  strategically  into  correct  foreign  policies  and  a  long  partnership  with  secular  forces  in  the  Arab  world . Egypt  being  the  first  and  the  only  one  till  now .
